As the new year 2016 begins, Hands On Hartford and the artists and artisans of Art Connection Studio & Woodworks completed their first successful collaboration; an artwork installation project for Hands On Hartford’s new home at 55 Bartholomew Avenue in the Parkville neighborhood of Hartford. The installation, Donor’s Recognition Piece, commemorates the individuals and organizations who have donated to their Special Campaign 2015-2017.
Hands On Hartford’s Bernadine Franco, Director of Partnerships & Development, and Mike Galaburri, Art Connection Studio’s Program Specialist, spent several months coordinating the project. The construction of the piece began in December of 2015.
Donor’s Recognition Piece is an assemblage of wooden tiles of many shapes and sizes, that were designed, constructed, and assembled by Omar Acosta, Art Connection Studio’s Artisan Woodworker, and his apprentice, Angel Valdes. Each tile consists of hand gilded paper that Tara Burke, Art Connection Studio’s Studio Coordinator, helped to orchestrate with the help of 14 artists, including Angel Valdes. The names of the Organizations and Individuals that donated to the Special Campaign 2015-2017 were printed on the gilded paper. From there, the paper was applied to the surface of the custom wood tiles and sealed. Upon completion on January 4, 2016, the tiles formed the Hands on Hartford Logo.
On January 9, 2016, Hands On Hartford held a private opening & tour of their future home and unveiled the Donor’s Recognition Piece for its donors and guests. Angel Valdes and others from Art Connection Studio attended the event and helped Bernadine unveil the piece.
Thank you to all who made this partnership between Hands On Hartford and Art Connection Studio/Woodworks a fruitful one!
